Heavy duty E-throttle electronics
The control strategy for individual electronic throttle systems significantly differs from conventional throttle bodies. Multiple return springs (9), low static resistance, and variable geometry are just a few things that create the need for a flexible ECU that can offer precise control. The control strategy is customized and specific for these throttle systems with failsafes included.
Partial load control with idle valve
The factory idle valve directs air into a distribution pipe separate of individual throttle runners. Up to specified load range, throttle plates remain closed significantly improving efficiency, combustion quality, emissions, and economy. The heavy duty E-throttle driver is also switched “off” in the lower load ranges mimicking the OE strategy.
Improved VANOS control
Motorsport VANOS operates unconventionally when compared to regular VVT (variable valve timing) systems. The pressure is regulated at extremely high pressures at all engine speeds, which allows for precise and consistent position control. Each camshaft requires two outputs each to advance and retard separately. Most systems require only one output per cam. Conventional systems also have a “return” position when not being actuated. Motorsport VANOS must be commanded to a position and therefore maintained. At constant loads, the system is designed to “hold” position without electrical solenoid operation. The Emtron/Pavlotech control strategy allows for operation that mimics, if not surpasses the OE control. When cam targets are within deadband (at the target), the solenoid operation is switched off until there is target deviation due to mechanical forces or load changes. Trying to use a standard control strategy on these systems often overloads the solenoids creating a false anxiety regarding reliability.
Variable speed fan strategies
Speed dependant based on radiator outlet temperature (OE strategy)
Speed dependant based on a/c pressure stabilizing the system to minimize compressor cycling (OE strategy).
Auto start function
One momentary click to start position to initiate engine starting automatically. Clutch switch position is evaluated for safety.
G-force controlled oil pick ups
S62 has oil solenoid valves that control secondary oil pickups over .5g of lateral movement. Currently the Emtron ECU maintains control of this function using the onboard 3 axis G-sensor. Configuration using the factory DSC sensor information over CAN is coming soon. This way control over the system regardless of the vehicle integration level will be possible.
